Best Review on LaCuisineTM 18oz Tornado Portable Mixer
The #1 thing to remember for this device is that the rubber cap on the bottom of the cup pries off to reveal the battery compartment.
This is perfect for making protein and meal replacement shakes.
It's also perfect for making BulletProof Coffee (do a web search if you don't know what that is). This device is not built to handle hot beverages, so you have to be careful to avoid cracking the plastic and ruining the blender. Here's the trick: start your tap water running cold, place this blender under the flow of water, then turn your tap to hot. As the blender fills pour out the old water. When the water is hot, turn off the tap and cap the blander full of hot water. When the coffee is ready, pour out the water, drop in your ingredients, fill with coffee and replace the lid. Now you can safely blend a perfect cup of bulletproof coffee!
Last thought: I haven't had the problem reported here about long term bad smells. I did notice one morning a sour milk smell coming from the cup. I hadn't cleaned the cup well enough after the previous morning's protein shake. Some dish detergent and hot water (and then turning blending ON) fixed that in a snap. Never let your drinks sit in the cup for hours (especially if the liquids dry out in the cup) and smell won't be a problem.
Update 1-10-13: The first one sprang a leak about two months after my first review, so I got a new one. Same kind. This one I have used about 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day, to mix meal replacement drinks. I put in a lithium battery about 4 months ago and it's still going. These are cheap cups that I don't expect to be extremely durable, but they are more reliable than you'd think and still the best small-portion drink mixers I have found. My 5 star rating stands.
When I saw the written review for this bottle I didnt want to buy it...but a friend of mine recommended it and so I decided to try it out anyways...
BalasHapusAfter trying it out for myself I must say having this thing is fantastic. Yes it was poorly packaged and yes it didn't come with any instructions other than a very vague arrow on the bottom of the cup but after a little poking around I discovered that instead of unscrewing the bottom you simply remove the rubber stopper from the bottom which creates an airtight container for the batteries. Once you get that all sorted out its a matter of adding water/milk/juice pressing the button and mixing some great drinks. Press the button once to start the mixer and once again to stop it.
If you're like me and hate protein shaker bottles, or even if you like protein shaker bottles and are just looking for something novel then this thing is flippin awesome. Makes perfectly smooth protein shakes even with milk and other perfectly mixed drinks (e.g. Crystal Lite or Kool-Aid). Get this thing. It rocks.
works good for my kool-aide and vodka looks cool too all the airline folks love it. I mix up a spoon full of powder and 9 oz of vodka just before takeoff on transatlatic flights, thank God for auto-pilot and the two other pillots

BalasHapusThis is the coolest cup. I blend up my protein drinks and it works well! You do need 2 AAA batteries.

BalasHapusSo I saw reviews on here saying this isn't powerful enough to mix protein shakes and while YES it's not a blender, it does have sufficient power to mix a protein shake. This video shows me mixing two scoops of powder. I find it easier to get the water spinning and then add the protein slowly so that you get a thorough mix. This isn't a video review of me showing you everything about it; just me proving that it's up to the task of mixing basic protein mixes.
The protein mix I am using DOES get thicker the longer you let it sit, so after 3-4 minutes the machine will struggle to mix it quickly, but it'll still mix it.
I don't show it in this video, but the switch DOES lock in the on position so you don't have to hold it down continually. Takes 2 AAA batteries.
My overall impression/opinion of the mixer is: It's 11 bucks... If it were twice that, I'd expect more, but for 11 bucks, it meets my expectations.
Happy mixing!

Best $12 I ever spent to help reach my fitness goals. Mixes any powder with water, milk, juice no problem. Everyone that sees it in the gym asks where I got it.
BalasHapusI don't know why other people complain about how hard it is to wash this. All you need to do is put water and a bit of soap and just mix it! I do that after mixing my drinks to clean it.
BalasHapusAnyways, not only is a good mixer for only $10, it is pretty entertaining to watch it haha. I usually use this to mix chocolate powder with my milk, and I use this to mix protein drinks.
If you have a spare $10 and you need a portable mixer, I would suggest this one :)
Reminder: This is a mixer, NOT A BLENDER. Use common sense and mix appropriate things. If you're gonna put in ice in this small mixer, you should not complain about it and just realize it's your own mistake.
I bought this product because I needed to mix my protein shakes at office. The product looks fancy and sometimes requires some time to mix some powders perfectly. But still you have to deal with the batteries changes, though they last long. Next time I will buy one of those 'blender ball' mixers.
BalasHapusThe construction is good, quality of materials is excellent.
It was a good buy.
I love this thing! I use it for protein powder, emergen-c, instant coffee, or just to cool down my drink by stirring it with the motor. It helps that I can see inside and remix a little when it settles. It seems to seal well for transport - I haven't taken it anywhere yet, but I can hold it upside down and nothing leaks out. It looks nice and works well. I followed the directions posted by another reviewer to install the batteries quickly and easily, but I have only used it maybe 10 times so far so I don't know how soon the batteries will drain. Overall it's a great value and perfect for me - those single-sized blenders with blades are too loud and have more blending power than I need (but are great for making smoothies etc), and the cylindrical mixers that work like this one are not spill-proof and do not keep drinks warm (but are great for just home use on cold drinks). I have all of the above, and also a fit n fresh portable wand mixer in a little case, which is compact and works well but you need to keep a cup with it or find one every time.
BalasHapusI am thinking of buying another one of these to keep at work. It is the best automatic stirrer I have found, and a great value, in my opinion!
