Cuisinart CSB 79 200 watt Immersion Attachments

I've been using a Braun multi-function immersion hand blender/food processor for the past five years. It was a good workhorse, so I'll compare the two.

OVERALL BUILD: While the Braun felt solid, it had an all-plastic construction. The Cuisinart feels much more substantial by comparison. The brushed stainless steel exterior looks great- more importantly, it doesn't attract fingerprints. The mini-food processor has thick polycarbonate walls and is substantially larger than the Braun one. The Cuisinart mini food-processor also has rubber feet on the bottom for anti-slip performance, which the Braun lacks. One advantage of the Braun is its longer immersion shaft; both the control unit and the blending unit are longer than the Cuisinart by several centimeters. My only other complaint about the Cuisinart is that its whisk attachment feels comparatively flimsier.

OPERATION: The Braun has 400 W and 12 speed settings whereas the Cuisinart has 200 W and 2 speed settings. The speed settings aren't a dealbreaker for me, since I only ever operated the Braun in setting 12 (max speed!). Although the power difference (200W) seems substantial, in practice, they both perform the same. The chopper is superb and obviates the need for a stand-alone mini food processor.

In conclusion, you're getting a lot of bang for your buck here. The Cuisinart looks great, works great, and is relatively easy on the wallet. I just hope it lasts as long as my Braun has.

  1. With this I made three smoothies so far and I am 120% satisfied. I have a food processor so I thought I wouldn't need a hand blender but after I realized that the food processor licks if I work with liquidy stuff, I bought this one. At first, I was going to buy another model from Cusinart (the one with lots of color choice). Yet I saw it in Macy's and I realized the body is made out of plastic and looks not sturdy. So, after reading many reviews in Amazon, I chose this one. This hand blender makes my life twice easier! It is sturdy and very easy to clean. I haven't used the whisk attachment and the chopper one, yet I'm already fully satisfied.

  2. Length:: 3:36 Mins

    This video demonstrates the Smart Stick in action.

    Pros: Sturdy; great for pureeing soups; whips egg whites and emulsifies dressings; has a mini-bowl attachment for light food processing.

    Cons: None, really, other than the fact that most people will have other small appliances in the kitchen that do the work of the attachments.

    This would be a fantastic shower/wedding gift. If you make a lot of soups and sauces, an immersion blender is a must, and you might as well have the attachments to go with it.

  3. We had one of these that lasted about ten years. We got this one which is two speeds and I expect that this one also will go the distance.

  4. This hand blender is so flexible and small enough for even the tiniest kitchens. I use it for making soups, just put the blender right into the pot to puree the soup ingredients. I use it for making smoothies. I use it with the attachment to chop onions, vegetables, nuts and even in a pinch to grind coffee beans. It doesn't do everything a full size food processor does but it does most things and as I said takes up little space. I love mine!

  5. The "Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed Immersion Hand Blender with Attachments" is an excellent auxiliary small appliance which can be used for a variety of kitchen tasks. It can replace your small food chopper; allow you to blend ingredients without having to use your small hand mixer; and gives you the versatility of having multiple options without having to use multiple small appliances.

    The "Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed Immersion Hand Blender with Attachments" is easy to assemble. Attachments connect to the "smart stick" with no effort. The sharp blade on the chopper is extremely sharp; on the high speed, nuts are pulverized quickly. The whisk is particularly useful when combining hot liquids and beaten eggs. Because you need only one hand to operate the "smart stick", you can control the pour of hot liquid into the eggs much better than attempting to mix the two by hand or when using a regular hand mixer. I found I was less likely to have coagulated egg pieces in sauces, etc. when I used the "Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed Immersion Hand Blender". As others have stated, this makes a wonderful smoothie. The bowl portion of this unit tends to rock a bit because the three "feet" are located close to the center of the bowl's bottom. Cuisinart might want to consider moving the feet closer to the outer edge for more stability.

    Without attachments, the "Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed Immersion Hand Blender" weighs approximately 17 oz. Its diameter, in the control area, is about 7 inches. The high and low controls which turn the "smart stick" on and off must be held down for the unit to operate. This prevents having ingredients fly all over your work area should you drop the unit while it is in use.

    I am finding multiple uses for the "Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed Immersion Hand Blender with Attachments" and am sure I will find more as I continue its use. If you are looking for a versatile auxiliary small appliance, you may want to consider the "Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed Immersion Hand Blender with Attachments".
