Prismacolor Premier Soft Colored Pencils

I'm new to Prismacolor pencils as they are a bit hard to get and expensive to buy in Australia. The ones I bought from Amazon are about half the price including postage than what I can buy them here. They are a really high quality artist pencil and they allow you to layer your colors and also to burnish. For those of you that aren't familiar with burnishing its a way of laying the color on in a heavier hand so that your pencil actually goes on thicker and takes on a waxier or almost painted look. These are the only pencil I have found so far that this technique really works properly with. They also blend together really well and the range of colors is just awesome. They are more expensive than what you may buy in your average office/school supply store but this is defiantly a case of you get what you pay for, if you want quality it's worth the bit extra. You really can't go wrong with these. A little tip: If you don't want your lead to break when you sharpen your pencils use a battery or electric sharpener. Often when you get breaks as you sharpen its because you are slightly twisting the pencil as you sharpen it and these ones are just too good to waste.

  1. I have been drawing all my life but never really done much colour work and would like to know which brands people recommend for colour pencils. im looking for that soft, flowing look and my current coloured pencils are not really doing that ( I know a bad workman blames his tool, but you get my drift) they are just a whsmith own brand so not excactly cheap but price is not an issue as long as the out come is good. thanks.

  2. I am looking to invest in some colored pencils... People recommend me Derwent pastel pencils, prismacolor pencils and Faber Castell aquarelle.. The thing is I want a versatile tool. I do portraits and still life images most of the time. I want colour pencils that are hard enough tho capture detail and vibrant.. So which do recommend? What are the difference between all three?

  3. I am thinking about getting some prismacolor colored pencils and this is my first time getting some, but i am not sure which kinds to get, there are the softcore and the verathin ones and others. Also if i were to get some, how many should i get? They have different sets such as 12,24,36,48,60,72,96,132, and a pack of 150 colored pencils. Which set should i get..? I am an amateur artist so i am not the best at coloring but really would like to try some prismas, i usually do anime/manga style so which set would be the best?

  5. I'm an aspiring artist who is looking to work on shading and creating anywhere from realistic looking portraits with pencils, and more sharp and powerful images with pens. I'm looking for top quality pencils that are good for shading, and some good pens. I also need to know, what are some of the best quality color pencils? Something that comes in many colors, and that I can blend too. I'm not looking for an answer like "crayola". I'm looking for top quality.

  7. I can sketch great, but only in regular pencils. The color pencils I have tried are very hard and difficult to blend. Do colored pencils exist that are as soft as an 8B? I would even be happy with a 2 or 4B softness! I want to move to a color medium but have no clue which to buy! Thanks.

  8. I recently ordered a Prismacolor Blender Pencil because I watched a tutorial on using it. It looked awesome. I have Crayola colored pencils and I am not sure if it will even work. Anyone know?
